Dr. Colm McCarthy graduated from University College Dublin in 2005. He worked in Emergency Medicine in Sydney before returning to Ireland to complete 4 years of GP specialist training and a Masters in Sports Medicine. During this time he also gained additional qualifications in general medicine, Child Health and Medicine for the Elderly.
As well as enjoying all aspects of general practice, Colm is qualified and experienced in diabetes management, dermatoscopy (skin checks) and skin cancer surgery, minor surgery and joint injections.
Colm’s areas of special interest in sports medicine are the football codes, concussion, knee injuries and running biomechanics, where his research has been published internationally. He is particularly passionate about how an active lifestyle can help people of all ages keep healthy and happy, and tackle chronic diseases. Since moving to Perth in 2013 Colm has worked in master’s sports, international rules, and in the WAFL. He is currently team doctor for the Western Force (Rugby Union).
In his spare time Colm can be found enjoying the ocean with the Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC.
